Waiting on Wednesday: The Last Magician and Roar

So a challenge I'm taking part in requires you to post a Waiting on Wednesday post about said book and since I've been thinking about doing more challenges anyway... I decided to include another book that comes out sooner that I need and make this a weekly thing if I can.

The Last Magician

  • Author: Lisa Maxwell
  • Publisher: Simon Pulse
  • Release Date: 18th July 2017
So I'm required to talk about this book as part of a challenge and it is a book I'm truly excited for. A modern fantasy book with time travel and early 20th century New York and gangs. It looks so super interesting and I'm most looking forward to seeing the characters traverse New York and The Devil's Own. As well as this the main character Esta is a thief looking for a magical artefact and who travels times especially for doing so. It seriously gives me vibes of a slightly older and less fantastical version of The Dream Merchant which is one of my all-time favourite books.

Synopsis: In modern day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic--the Mageus--live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power--and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she's been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she's there. And all of Esta's training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order--and the Brink--before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Roar

For Americans and some other people, this book is already out. But according to Amazon it's out in a few more days for me. Meep, I'm so excited! Cora Carmack seems like such a lovely person and this looks like an amazing fantasy novel. The map is gorgeous and I only wish I'd finished colouring it in. I'm expecting a beautiful and romantic novel here and I need it like now. Seriously. Anyone want to buy it for me? XD

Synopsis: Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world's deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora's been groomed to be the perfect queen. But she's yet to show any trace of the magic she'll need to protect her people. To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora's mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He'll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks - storm magic. And the people selling it?They're not Stormlings. They're storm hunters. Legend says that her ancestors
